The Walking Dead

Nope, I am not talking about the TV show by that name, I am talking about the new Halloween single by Molly Starlite & the Sputniks called "The Walking Dead" which you can download/stream at iTunes, Google Play, Amazon, & Spotify now, with more retailers coming SOON!

In 2007 or 2008 (I forget which), a friend of mine (who has, sadly, passed on) was making a zombie movie for a zombie film festival/contest. He needed a theme song to play over the opening and end credits, so I wrote this song! I taught it to the band, and it was so much fun to play - and so far outside of what we usually played - that it stayed in our repertoire.

In 2014, we recorded it at Bull O'The Woods Recording Studio in Newport, and I made a lyric video for it, but we were working on another project and it never really went anywhere.

I recently had it remastered at That One Basement studio in Spokane, WA by Glenn Case and released it as a surprise Halloween single.

Candied Apples!

As you can tell, I have gotten really into homemade treats for Halloween this year, and I continue that tradition by making Candied Apples this week! But I don't know if any of you have ever encountered this problem, but, a lot of times, the caramel slides right off apples, particularly store-bought ones, which, let's face it, is what most of us have.

So... how to fix that? Three words: Fine. Grit. Sandpaper.

I use 800-grit sandpaper to scrub the wax off the washed apples right before coating with caramel, and the rough texture of the apple peel helps the caramel adhere to the apple. In fact, using this method, I have never had a problem with the caramel trying to slide off the apple even at room temperature or before refrigerating. It also works with more traditional candy coatings on apples, not just caramel coating. It's a real game changer!

Halloween Truffle Candies!

So, as you know, I took a week off to get some things done for a show that I had coming up. It got canceled due to weather, unfortunately, but I also was able to use the time to make my first music video! (See it in my last post!)

This week, I am back, and I have made for you some Halloween Truffle Candy! This is such a simple recipe, I use it all the time to make treats for Christmas, birthdays... heck, it's so easy, you can do it any time at all! With only 4 required ingredients and a little bit of time, these treats look like you spent hours on them when it really only takes about 20 minutes of active work on them.

You can choose your favorite flavor of cake mix, add flavoring to the cream cheese, choose holiday appropriate fillings - or just choose whatever you like! - and top them with whatever you want! Since these were for Halloween, I bought what I thought were Halloween sprinkles - edible sugar shapes - from Amazon, but they turned out to be little plastic confetti... which is fine, but they're NOT edible. That'll teach me to browse Amazon when I'm about ready for bed!

Anyway, people LOVE these truffles, and just one is just the right amount of after-dinner dessert, too! Watch me make them here:

Big, Ol' Stinky Update Post

SOOOOO much to catch you all up on!

I took a week off from the Mid-Century Kitchen in order to prepare for a show (that has since been cancelled ::sad face::) but I also was able to make THIS, the first music video for Troublemaker, for the song "Summertime!" Check it out!

Also, I made a bunch of parody songs for my Parody of the Week over on my Patreon, which you can access by pledging $5 or more per month! That's 4 songs per month for just $5, and I can use that money to get some things I DESPERATELY need:

1) A lighting rig for the Mid-Century Kitchen and other photography and video projects***
2) PA speaker tripods for  live shows (over the years bars and old band mates have stolen all but one of the four I used to have)
3) Matching shirts for my band
4) More recording time and/or a recording unit I can use at home
5) Props, costumes, maybe hiring an actual videographer for future music videos.
6) I want to start reviewing random Amazon kitchen finds on the Mid-Century Kitchen. Since i don't have sponsors... this is my best bet.

***This is really the most pressing thing I need.

Stay tuned tomorrow for this week's Mid-Century Kitchen episode where I am making Halloween treats!

Boozy Birthday Milkshake!

This past week was my Tommy Lee's birthday, so I thought I would spoil him with homemade ice cream... and then, as is typical with me... I took it FARTHER.

I turned my homemade vanilla ice cream into a boozed up adult milkshake!

SIDENOTE: My blender is not so good, and I DESPERATELY need a lighting rig for film these videos. It gets so dark in my house - or, it appears that way on camera - and I found a lighting rig on Amazon for just $55... but I am always broke. :( I put up some sweet new rewards on my Patreon account that are exclusive gifts to my patrons... help me get a lighting rig to brighten up my videos! I will love you all forever!
