"Troublemaker" Drink 'N' Dip!

As you may have heard, my new CD, Troublemaker, is OUT NOW! That's right! You can download or stream it from iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, Google Play, or Microsoft Groove RIGHT NOW, or buy a copy of the CD (signed, of course!) from me at my web site, MOLLYSTARLITE.COM!

To celebrate, for this week's episode of the Mid-Century Kitchen with Molly Starlite, I created TWO brand new recipes for y'all, a combo I am calling the Troublemaker Drink 'N' Dip! The cocktail includes one of my favorite liquors, Cherry Pie Moonshine, as well as a couple other fruity liquors (pineapple rum and coconut whiskey to name two of them).

The dip is a creamy concoction with a little bitty kick from salsa and ranch dressing mix (doesn't get more 1950s than a powdered dip mix, does it?) that disappears pretty quick at parties! I had my Tommy Lee's boss over yesterday when I made the dip, and he ate pretty much the whole bowl!

Mini Cupcakes (plus a silicone cupcake liner review!)

STAY UNTIL THE CREDITS ROLL ON THE VIDEO BELOW & GET TO HEAR A SAMPLE OF MY UPCOMING CD TROUBLEMAKER ...

A few weeks ago, I really wanted to make mini cupcakes for a potluck event, but I could not find mini cupcake liners anywhere. Apparently, retailers don't have a big demand for them. I don't know why: mini cupcakes are just the right size to have when you have a sweets craving.

Anyway, so, after some research, I found some silicone mini cupcake liners on Amazon (also available in regular size), so I bought them - I mean, so it's $6... if they work... - and waited for them to be delivered. I have to say that I am pretty impressed with these things. The description said that they were heat resistant up to 445 degrees, and what cake ever gets baked hotter than 350 or - at MOST - 375?

They certainly worked for my mini cupcakes, based on a 1953 recipe in my Parenting Magazine cookbook I inherited from my grandma for a classic white cake. The cake is pretty simple for a scratch cake and tastes amazing, too! I topped my mini cupcakes with a strawberry cream cheese whipped cream that perfectly complimented my little white cakes. Watch me make them here:

Verdict on the silicone cupcake liners: Get them! They are reusable & wash up easy, didn't discolor in the oven, and didn't make the cakes taste funny. Five stars!

Download Troublemaker on iTunes, Groove, or Google Play!

Let me cut right to the chase: My latest music with Molly Starlite & The Sputniks is available NOW at iTunes, Google Play, & Microsoft Groove Music! I also have some super cool bonus content up at my site under the new "Music" tab, and the physical CDs will be here next week and shipping out pre-orders!

This has been incredibly exciting for me. I've spent more than 5 years on this project - basically trying to get it done since the last Make Me Shiver album came out in 2010 - and to have 6 brand new songs for people to listen to after just 6 weeks? That's really something, in my book, considering everything I went through to get anything recorded.

I have to give credit to Glenn Case and Rachael Layne - my sister and brother-in-law - for helping me get this recording done in record time. After my drummer quit the band, I was ready to give up, but it was their hard work and convincing me to keep going that got this album made!

On this CD is 6 new songs - Troublemaker, Saturday Night, Over The Moon, Summertime, It's Entertaining, and Big Black Ford - and they all sound so good and adhere to my retro sound... I couldn't be happier. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I do!

Cheese-Stuffed Italian Sausage Meatballs!

STAY UNTIL THE CREDITS ROLL ON THE VIDEO BELOW & GET TO HEAR A SAMPLE OF MY UPCOMING CD TROUBLEMAKER ...

You may remember in the first season of the Mid-Century Kitchen with Molly Starlite, I made my Italian soup recipe. I had all the ingredients here to make it for dinner the other night when I got the sudden idea to use the same recipe ingredients and turn it into meatballs! But then, I thought, just take it a step further and make them stuffed meatballs!

These things were really delicious, and they were just right for a night that was really just a little too warm for soup for dinner. Watch me make it here:

Tiki Torch Cocktail - A Molly Starlite Original Recipe!

STAY UNTIL THE CREDITS ROLL ON THE VIDEO BELOW & GET TO HEAR A SAMPLE OF MY UPCOMING CD TROUBLEMAKER ...

This week, the temperature has been in the 90s. Like much of the rest of the country, I'd imagine, the last thing I wanted to do was cook something. So, I decided to make you guys one of my favorite original cocktails I like to have on hot days: I call it the TIKI TORCH.

Filled with fruity liquors - orange liqueur, pineapple rum, coconut rum, and lemon juice - the surprise hit of cinnamon whiskey is fiery surprise that delights! I was surprised to read in my Tiki Cocktails book how often cinnamon flavors were used in tropical drinks, but I guess I shouldn't have been. In any case, here is the recipe:

1/2 cup 7-Up
2 tbls each orange liqueur, pineapple rum, and coconut rum
1 tbls cinnamon whiskey
2 tsp lemon juice

Shake in shaker filled with ice and strain into glass. Top with grenadine.

Fanciful Tiki Cheese Log

So, there's no video to this week's recipe. I made one, but with no one to help me except my 6-year-old, the video was, quite frankly, unwatchable. So I won't put you guys through that. However, I still want to share with you the mid-century recipe I made this week, this time, from Pinterest: I made a 1950s party staple of cheese log!

The whole idea was to make a boozed-up smoothie with frozen pineapple and raspberries that were on sale at WinCo, so I got a whole pineapple, gutted it (which was a LOT harder than I thought it would be), and then blended the innards with frozen pineapple chunks and raspberries, 7Up, and pineapple coconut Malibu rum. To go along side, what is more mid-century than a cheese log? And to tiki it up a bit: shaped like a pineapple with the top of my fresh pineapple as a garnish. You can clearly see how lovely it looked when I was done:

And it tasted great, too! Here are the drink and hors d'oeuvres recipes I made:

DRINK RECIPE
1 whole pineapple
3/4 cup frozen pineapple chunks
3/4 cup frozen raspberries
3/4 cup 7Up
1/4 cup pineapple-coconut rum
2 tbls cherry simple syrup

Cut top off pineapple. Set aside. Carefully cut pineapple innards out of pineapple until you have a cup. This may take a while; I am certain a pineapple coring device would help. Save pineapple innards, discarding core pieces.

Blend pineapple innards with all remaining ingredients. Serve in pineapple shell cup garnished with fruit slices, cherries, and a tropical cocktail umbrella, if desired.

CHEESE LOG RECIPE
1 pkg cream cheese (room temp)
1 tsp ranch dressing mix
3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
3 slices cooked bacon
2 tbls finely chopped green onion
Almonds (whole or halved preferred, but I used slivered and that worked fine)

Blend all ingredients (except almonds) in a medium mixing bowl. Scoop onto plastic wrap and roll into an egg shape. Refrigerate for 1 hour. Place almonds around the outside to resemble the outside of a pineapple. Place pineapple top from drink recipe at the small end of cheese log to garnish. Perfect for parties!
